Afghanistan Stability/COIN Dynamics – Security
I'm kicking this off with my favorite DOD power point slide of all time. Counterinsurgency doctrine required soldiers don't just find and kill their enemies, the also build close relationships with local communities and participate actively to build the piece. COIN has a long history of implementing across nations and wars, dating back to the days of colonialism. It isn't inherently bad, but it is certainly difficult to do. As Stanley Mcrystal said something like "when we understand this slide we will have won the war.
